OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
Under the direction of the Principal or designee of the High School, the Athletic Director coordinates and supervises the district athletic programs. Responsibilities encompass high school CIF and district middle school athletic activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Organize, coordinate, and supervise the high school athletic programs.
Maintain strong communication and coordination between the high school athletic programs and community groups such as youth sports organizations and Athletic Boosters.
Coordinate and supervise the middle school intramural and after school athletic programs and events.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibility to:
• Schedule and assist coaches in scheduling athletic contests and transportation in each athletic sport.
• Create the master calendar for athletic contests and practices; communicate upcoming events and any schedule changes to appropriate stakeholders to include transportation, parents/athletes, youth programs, athletic trainer, and competitors.
• Schedule physical examinations.
• Arrange and schedule officials, custodian, and security for contests as needed.
• Assist in the interview process for coaches.
• Supervise the eligibility of athletes and coaches to ensure compliance with all state, CIF, district, and school regulations and policies.
• Arrange snack bar personnel as needed.
• Arrange scorer’s table personnel for all sports as needed.
• Arrange for appropriate medical personnel to attend football games.
• Coordinates supervision of all athletic events.
• Recruit, evaluate and train coaches to ensure high standards for athletics in an
educational setting.
• Conduct regular coaches meetings to provide training and set clear expectations.
• Conduct seasonal parent meetings to review requirements and expectations.
• Co-facilitate (with District administration) the Athletic Sub-Committee meetings.
• Attend all League and CIF meetings and stay abreast of changes in rules and regulations
to communicate and update all League and CIF policies to coaches and administration.
• Serve as liaison and maintain regular communication with other Districts and/or schools
regarding athletic program policies and procedures and provide schedules, rosters,and
site logistics information.
• Communicate with District Maintenance Director regarding care, maintenance and use of
fields.
• Monitor grades of athletes each athletic season and ensure permission forms physicals,
and insurance is in place as part of processing student participation cards.
• Monitor to ensure the reporting of schedules and contest outcomes to the various news
media agencies/social media/district website.
• Maintain win/loss/championship/playoff records of teams.
• Provide updated records of All-League board and championship pennants to appropriate
individuals.
• Monitor points of senior male/female Athlete of the Year awards.
• Monitor “All Academic” teams
• Certification of all coaches, CPR, first aide, fingerprints, etc.
• Coordinate awards ceremony for each athletic season and order all block letters, trophies,
patches, etc.
• Monitor athletic budget and provide information to coaches regarding individual team
accounts
• Make recommendations for updating information in Coaches Handbook.
• Take incoming calls and answers questions from a variety of sources regarding athletic
programs.
• Work with other youth programs and coaches to coordinate any on-site events.
• Coordinate Middle School Athletic Program to include developing intramural and after
school athletic events and tournaments.
• Attend Linden Athletic Booster Club meetings and coordinate coach donation requests;
provide invoicing for donations needed and provide other reasonable documentation as
requested by Linden Athletic Booster Club for donations and athletic priorities.
• Ensure the proper reconditioning of safety equipment, accounting and maintenance of
athletic uniforms and equipment; coordinate replacements as needed.
• Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
• Effective communication and organization for articulation of the Athletic Program
• Coaching practices that are effective and preventative of athlete injuries.
• The balance of athletics and academics in the educational setting.
• CIF/Section requirements for participation and Clearinghouse eligibility for Division
• Maintenance and reconditioning of athletic equipment and uniforms.
Ability to:
• Facilitate parent meetings and/or written communication regarding upcoming sports.
• Offer advice and makes recommendations regarding the athletic program to appropriate
staff, departments, and administration.
• Represent school in a positive manner at league and section meetings.
• Maintain transportation budget for athletics.
• Supervise at athletic events as assigned by Principal or Designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma, or equivalent
• BA/BS preferred
• Must be able to obtain CPR/AED and Coaching certification
Experience:
• Experience as a high school athlete (college experience preferred)
• 5 or more years as an athletic coach (high school head coaching experience preferred)
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
The effective Athletic Director will be able to operate proactively, assuming responsibility for all
athletic events to include the planning, organizing, communication and problem solving needs of
the high school and district. The Athletic Director will be able to operate with flexibility and
problem solve as the needs arises.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an
employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable

The employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, talk,
and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand and walk. The employee is
occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or
crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds individually or with
assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to
adjust focus.
The employee must be able to engage in phone and technology-based communications and travel
independently.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee will be required to work in heat, cold, and wind in the outside environment, as
well as elevated noise levels created by crowds at indoor athletic events.
